LAURA WILLIS
Co-Founder of Shine Offline

A graduate of Social Psychology and Sociology, Laura’s background is in PR, Marketing and Events. She experienced a period of poor mental health in 2013 as a result of her dysfunctional relationship with her smartphone. Her recovery, which involved her reclaiming control over digital technology, went on to inspire her and Anna to launch the business to support others to thrive in a 24/7 connected world. Laura is now one of the world’s leading commentators on digital wellbeing and management at work.

“I am the kind of person who becomes very overwhelmed and so have a minimalist approach to my digital usage using a few apps to help manage my life (maps, calendar, weather, uber, podcasts) but avoiding clutter on my device. I still have a strong pull to my inbox and spend most of my day in ‘offline’ mode so that I can focus my mind. Having two phones – one for work and one for personal – is a game changer for me, as is keeping email off my phone.”

DR DAVID HAMILTON
Scientist, Writer and Speaker
DR DAVID HAMILTON
Scientist, Writer and Speaker

After completing my PhD in organic chemistry, I worked in R&D in the pharmaceutical industry, developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer. Inspired by the placebo effect, and how some people's conditions would improve because they believed a placebo was a real drug, I left the industry to write books and educate people in how they can harness their mind and emotions to improve their mental and physical health.

I'm now author of 11 books, including the Amazon bestseller, The Five Side Effects of Kindness. I'm also a columnist, The Kindness Tsar for Psychologies Magazine, and have been a featured guest on Channel 4's, Sunday Brunch Live in the UK and CBS Sunday Morning in the USA, as well as on several BBC radio shows and podcasts around the world.

I'm also the honorary scientific advisor for the charity, 52 Lives.

I'm an advocate for kindness and work passionately to inspire a kinder world.

Be kind is more than just a hashtag.

DR DAVID REILLY
Founder and Director of The WEL Charity
DR DAVID REILLY
Founder and Director of The WEL Charity

Dr David Reilly MBChB, FRCP, MRCGP, Honorary DSc (University of Westminster). He is currently Director of TheWEL Programmes, and The Healing Shift Enquiry, Founder and Director of TheWEL Charity. Until 2016 he was a Consultant Physician in The NHS Centre for Integrative Care in Glasgow; and Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board’s Lead Clinician for people with CFS/ME. He is a former visiting faculty member at Harvard Medical School, USA; he was The Scottish Government’s first National Clinical Lead for Integrative Care.

He became a doctor to combine his head and his heart in helping people. Training as a Consultant Physician and GP, he widened his learning and enquiry to look at other healing systems and holistic approaches, and RCTs in complementary medicine. He blended his work as a clinician, teacher and researcher to then focus on exploring better ways of approaching medicine and human caring that emphasise the innate healing capacity in people, the factors that modify the healing response and their interaction in the therapeutic encounter and relationship – ideas later adopted as the core of The Fifth Wave report and used in the www.AfterNow.co.uk project exploring the needed change in Public Health to tackle the long term conditions epidemics.

He then re-focused the Healing Shift Enquiry to explore how knowledge from our direct study of healing process and wellness enhancement might be scaled up beyond one-to-one relationships eg: in designing integrative models of care; in creating healing environments (www.ghh.info); and in cultural and national developments. He also explores the  application of the principles and practices in group-based work - like The WEL programmes (including PrimaryWEL and StaffWEL versions) -  www.thewel.org

STEVE BEEDIE
Managing Director of Unspoken Wounds

Steve Beedie was only 18 when he witnessed the traumatic event that changed the course of his destiny. Seeing a young 12 year old boy dying after stepping on a land mine would spin the course of Steve's life out of control. After years of suffering in silence, Steve was diagnosed with PTSD which resulted in his life falling apart. Almost losing his family and his life to this illness, he fought back from the brink and made a commitment and a promise to himself and his kids that nothing would ever stand in his way again.

After this empowering decision Steve is now a speaker and thought leader in leadership, emotional endurance and the gift of a second chance.

Steve has a very special gift to share with the world through his message.

From his heart and his example we can all learn that no matter how hard life can be, however complex the situation,"There is always something worth fighting for".

When I discovered Change Your World, I was engulfed by one of the darkest shadows that I had ever known in my life. I was alive but only existing, not living. My life has been literally and figuratively transformed. An array of positive seeds were planted in my mind by Suzy and all of the other wonderful speakers. My life is now blossoming into something beautiful, and I feel truly grateful to be living. Thank you so much.
